I'm 3/4 of the way through the book right now, and I can tell you that Chaos Theory is discussed in a lot more detail while Speilberg took most of it out in the movie's adaptation of Crichton's telling.

In the novel, Dr. Malcolm explains that one of the reasons the park will fail is that the dinosaurs are reintroduced to a world that is way different then the they left. For instance, when they come across the sick Stego (Triceratops in the movie), Malcolm explains that it's wheezing because of the different air pressure.

The book's telling of chaos theory and fractals is a lot better than the movie, and I recommend checking it out!
