2-dimensional creatures can only see line segments! In the same way that we really only see two-dimensional images. We understand that there is more three-dimensional information that we can't see, but we only perceive 2D...by analogy, 2-dimensional creatures only see 1D. I recommend reading the book, if I recall correctly it's VERY detailed on this matter.
