The article states, "We don't know if space is infinite or not. Or time - we don't know whether it has a beginning or if it will have an end in the future. So we don't know if it's a finite chunk of spacetime or an infinite chunk."
We absolutely do know if matter is infinite, therefore time as well. The creation/singularity of the beginning of the universe assures us that matter has a beginning. Could there be space before matter, possibly, but there can not be time without matter because time needs at least two different events, as well as light to determine the relational speed, and without matter there is no light.
