Stephen Smale talks about the horseshoe

The famous horseshoe map beautifully captures mathematical chaos. It was discovered in 1960 by the mathematician Stephen Smale (who later also won a Fields Medal for his proof of the generalised Poincaré conjecture). We met Smale at the Heidelberg Laureate Forum 2017, and asked him some questions about the horsehoe at a (somewhat noisy) press conference. Here is what he had to say.
