Manjul Bhargava (centre) with Plus editors Rachel and Marianne
Manjul Bhargava received a Fields Medal at this year's International Congress of Mathematicians, one of the highest honours in mathematics. We spoke to him a few days after he received his award about the importance of playing with maths, communicating maths and finding your own way in a mathematical world. See here for an article about his work and here for our abridged version of his excellent Fields Medal lecture.
What a wonderfully modest, articulate and interesting interview! I loved his phrase "the freedom of ignorance" in relation to finding you own path to explore and the excitement that comes with that.
