Plus at the 2026 Heidelberg Laureate Forum
Every September, one of our favourite maths events of the year takes place: the Heidelberg Laureate Forum. 200 early-career mathematicians are invited from across the world to network and learn - from each other, but also from some of the greatest mathematicians and computer scientists of our time. In particular, they invite winners of the Abel Prize, the Fields Medal, ACM A.M. Turing Award, the ACM Prize in Computing, and the Abacus Medal (formerly the Nevanlinna Prize).
This year, there were contributions by two of this year's Fields Medal recipients – Yu Deng and Jacob Tsimerman — as well as former Fields Medallists Peter Scholze (2018) and Efim Zelmanov (1994). Tsimerman and Scholze also took part in a very timely panel discussion on the role of AI in mathematical research. And Plus Editor Rachel Thomas was on a panel looking at careers in academia, industry, start-ups, and beyond. Recordings of other talks and panel discussions are available on the HLF's YouTube channel.
To get a sense of what the HLF is like, watch our vlogs recorded in collaboration with the videographer Arthur Bauer.
We've been attending the HLF for quite a few years now, and since 2021 each year we have produced a series of vlogs about what it is like You can see more of our time at the previous HLFs in these playlists:
