Plus at the 2026 Heidelberg Laureate Forum

    Rachel Thomas Marianne Freiberger
    14 September, 2026

Every September, one of our favourite maths events of the year takes place: the Heidelberg Laureate Forum. 200 early-career mathematicians are invited from across the world to network and learn - from each other, but also from some of the greatest mathematicians and computer scientists of our time. In particular, they invite winners of the Abel Prize, the Fields Medal, ACM A.M. Turing Award, the ACM Prize in Computing, and the Abacus Medal (formerly the Nevanlinna Prize).

This year, there will be contributions by two of this year’s Fields Medal recipients – Yu Deng and Jacob Tsimerman — as well as former Fields Medallists Peter Scholze (2018) and Efim Zelmanov (1994). Further lectures will be held by cryptographer Yael Tauman Kalai (ACM Prize in Computing - 2022) and 2026 IMU Abacus Medal recipient Shayan Oveis Gharan. Their lectures and panel discussions will be livestreamed on the HLF website and available afterwards on the HLF’s YouTube channel.

It's a truly fantastic event and we're very excited to be spending this week there. To get a sense of what we'll be up to, here is a highlight reel from last year - including Vint Cerf and Leslie Lamport singing Gilbert and Sullivan!

We're also sharing updates on our social media channels (Bluesky, X, and LinkedIn), so make sure you're following for more.

We've been attending the HLF for quite a few years now, and since 2021 each year we have produced a series of vlogs about what it is like on behalf of the HLF in collaboration with the videographer Arthur Bauer. You can see more of our time at the previous HLFs in these playlists:
