Why stop?

The PASS Maths "magazine" is great! Why did publishing stop with the May '98 issue?

Jon Revelos

It didn't, PASS Maths is still going strong. We publish once per term: January, May and September. A new editorial team will be publishing the January 1999 issue, see "Time to change" in the issue 7 Editorial.

What a coincidence!

January 1998

A controversy is afoot. Some people claim that the Hebrew text of the Old Testament contains encoded predictions which are valid today. For example, the 1995 murder of the Israeli Prime Minister Mr Rabin is apparently foretold. Other people deny these claims. They agree that such messages may be found but say that similar coincidences will necessarily occur whenever a large book is studied in such a way. Feelings are running rather high.

What did the Romans know?

Did the Romans understand the concept of "zero" and did they have a Roman numeral for zero? Did the Romans understand the concept of fractions and how did they represent them?
